Go to the Internet Shortcut property sheet and make sure the target is correct.

What else is weird is the icon for the oculus store keeps changing from the new icon to the old one. Has anyone else had this issue? Categories With no seemingly consistency, whenever you open the steam overlay you can get stuck stuttering with super low FPS until it magically goes away or you keep the steam overlay open. Only consistent way to get rid of it is to restart the client. It's like treading on a minefield, you never know when it's going to happen.
For me the issues has come up again. I am pretty sure that it is because I am running out of vram though. MotoFckr9k : I'd say to try my trick I posted here, and check the results. SonicLux Hedgeman : For me this only happens when I actually open the overlay, so making it crash on start wouldn't help. Also there is an option to disable to overlay, so there isn't really much point in crashing the overlay.
MotoFckr9k : is there an option to do that? SonicLux Hedgeman : I just checked and this actually just prevents you from opening the dashboard. The dashboard does still run in background. So if the actual vrdashboard process causing a problem, then this doesn't help. MotoFckr9k : I mean, it's still worth a try in my case. I'll give it a shot when I can and see what happens. Also crashes my headset sometimes. From what I can see it can be from a memory leak.
[SOLVED] VRChat Keeps Crashing | 2020 Updated
Anyways, my point is, yesterday I turned on Vrchat and I forgot to change some settings, so as soon as I booted vrchat I closed it.
Reopened and changed settings. When I got back into the game I couldn't access the steam overlay, BUT I noticed a significant boost in frames, my internet was running just great and neither my headset nor the USB driver crash.
I even managed to load a mb world pretty dang quickly! Basically, I think the steam overlay is what's causing this memory leak. I have to try this again when I can. Yep, after further testing, the trick i use is to open and close vrchat right as steam vr boots up, then reebooting vrchat so that the steam vr overlay stops working.
This brought a significant boost in FPS and had no memory leak whatsoever! My internet was fast and I could actually load everyone's avatar on The Great Pug, something almost impossible before. Guys it's called a memory leak issue [find youtube tutorial on how to fix it] you can reinstall vrchat to see if it has any memory leak again. Found some interesting insights. I've had this bug for over a year. If you change your custom resolution in steamvr settings while having the issue in-game, it CAN make the fps go back and recover, or it can do the opposite and skyrocket gpu usage.
From my tests, whenever I open the steam overlay at the wrong time who knows what really causes this and change the custom resolution a few times, it can go away and recover.
Upon looking at task manager, it makes the gpu usage immediately max out. However, further changing of the resolution can bring the problem back.Give feedback. Give Feedback. Feature Requests. Problem: Was able to load into the hub successfully after going through tutorial, but most other player models did not render correctly, if at all. Upon restarting the game, it crashes upon loading into the hub.

Here is the proton log file: steam How have things changed with VRChat They just performed an engine upgrade along with upgrading various libraries they use. VRChat Edit 1: because this maybe related to my old cpu's lack of AVX support.
Will update once try it on a supported cpu. Edit 2: I upgraded to an i7 cpu with AVX support but had the same crashing issue until switching from proton 3. Everything's back to working as well as it did before. System: Gentoo I just tested it with 3. Going through several avatar worlds, the game seems to work just fine. I did notice a lot of hangs-- the hangs would cause some nasty mouse wackyness. Except for the TV, however, none of the hangs lasted more than a few seconds and the game resumed working after that.
The exit button does appear to hang the game, but I don't see that as a huge issue it is the Exit button VRChat has issues closing properly without hanging in some cases on its own on Windows. So that is not surprising. There were 1 or 2 models that didn't render correctly, but that was an issue in desktop as well. All of the other bugs I hit seem to be actual bugs in the game itself, and weren't the fault of Proton.
I'll add this to the OP as well. Proton 3. I've had that issue with the same map as well. I thought it was an avatar, but the map makes more sense because I kept crashing after turning Safety all the way up to max. I'm not really sure what changed, if anything. I've put over hours into the game at this point, and can say that it works pretty well.
